Sleeping Dogs has had a turbulent life hasn’t it? It started out as True Crime: Hong Kong – the newest entry in the franchise before Activision famously and unceremoniously cancelled the project last year, even though it was close to completion. In stepped Square Enix to save the day who resurrected the game, renamed it as Sleeping Dogs and made it into a brand new IP. Was it worth bringing the game back from the dead or was it cancelled justly? Heads will probably be rolling at Activision HQ because Sleeping Dogs is an excellent game that never deserved the treatment it got.

I will post links to things I have written over there on this blog so that anybody that wants to check out the things I’ve written can do so, and please do! The process of me actually having written things over there has been delayed somewhat but now things are finally back on track.
As for Sleeping Dogs, it really is a great game that launched at the best time (ie. with little competition) but despite it being so unexpectedly good, it obviously has its flaws, which are outlined in the review. It’s a shame it suffers from these niggling issues because without them, it truly would be a brilliant open-world game to rival even the big boys like Grand Theft Auto. In its first outing, however, it comes far, far behind in the race. It’s done well in the sales though so a sequel is inevitable, and hopefully it’ll learn from the mistakes it made this time around.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the game, either here or on GE. The majority of opinions I’ve seen of the game are positive and there’s little doubt that Activision made a big error in binning the project but like all games, all that praise has to come with some negativity. So, use that comment box and tell me what you think of it!
On a side-note, you can also check out my pick for my favourite game of the month released in August here, as well as my choice for what game that’s releasing in September that I’m most anticipating here. And on that note, I hope you have a good day/evening!
